Vic Bergman was born and raised in Coaldale, Alberta. He developed a passion for fishing at an early age and caught his first fish, a northern pike, when he was eight years old. In 1972, Vic was introduced to fly-fishing for trout by one of his teachers, while participating in a school camping trip in the mountains near Waterton Lakes National Park.
In 1984, Vic started a fly-fishing guide service, offering trips on the Bow, Crowsnest, and other trout streams in southern Alberta. In the late 1980s and early 90s, he was employed by a fisheries consulting firm conducting work on various projects in southwest Alberta. These projects included creel, electro-fishing, habitat and trout spawning surveys on the Crowsnest, Castle and Oldman rivers, and their tributaries.
Vic is co-owner of the Crowsnest Angler Fly Shop & Guide Service, located along Hwy. 3 in the town of Bellevue, Crowsnest Pass. The fly shop has been operating since 1993. Along with fly-fishing and fly-tying, Vic’s other interests include writing and photography. His articles and photographs have appeared in a number of Canadian and American publications, including The Alberta Fishing Guide, Canadian Fly Fisher, Fly Fusion, Fly Fisherman and Northwest Fly Fishing. He has also produced two fly-fishing and tying videos, “Trout – Tying and Fishing Effective Trout Flies” & “Fly Fishing Alberta’s Chinook Country,” and has appeared on several television programs.
